PRP: Your Surgery-Free Help for Thinning Hair

PRP: Your Surgery-Free Help for Thinning Hair

If you’ve noticed your hair thinning or your part widening, you’re not alone. Millions of men and women experience hair loss, but it’s not something you need to sit back and watch happen. There are effective, surgery-free options to promote new hair growth and restore your confidence.

At A&U Family Medicine in Sugar Land, Texas, Dr. Hammad Zaidi and our team proudly offer quality family medicine care and aesthetic medicine services, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for hair restoration. Here’s how this innovative treatment taps into your body’s own healing power to stimulate natural hair growth.

What is PRP?

PRP is a solution derived from your own blood that has a high concentration of platelets. Platelets are tiny cells that travel in your blood and help the body heal after an injury. In addition to forming blood clots to stop bleeding, platelets contain specialized proteins and growth factors that kick-start tissue repair.

PRP has been widely used in sports medicine to treat injuries as well as aesthetics for skin rejuvenation. It’s also gaining popularity as a safe and effective option for addressing hair thinning and loss.

How PRP helps thinning hair

While research is ongoing, experts believe PRP stimulates hair follicles, helps them live longer, and prolongs the growth phase of the hair cycle. The treatment is especially effective for male- and female-pattern hair loss.

Emerging evidence also shows that PRP may help other conditions such as cicatricial alopecia, a type of scarring hair loss caused by injuries or inflammatory conditions.

For best results, we recommend starting PRP hair restoration treatments as soon as you notice hair thinning or loss.

What PRP treatment involves

PRP therapy for hair restoration is customized based on personal needs and goals. We discuss your treatment options after a consultation.

To begin the treatment, we first draw a sample of blood to make your PRP solution. We clean your scalp with an antiseptic agent and apply or inject a local anesthetic to minimize discomfort, and we then inject the PRP into the areas of the scalp where hair is thinning or balding. You can expect a number of injections in the target area.

We repeat the injections monthly for three months and then offer booster injections every three to six months.

When to expect results with PRP

You may not see improvements in hair thickness or growth until your third month of treatment. Hair growth is slow, and it takes time for PRP to work. Additionally, it’s not a permanent fix — that’s why we do booster injections to help maintain your look.

We can also combine PRP injections with other hair restoration treatments like minoxidil or surgery to enhance results

Hair loss can affect your self-esteem, but you don’t have to face it alone. If you’re looking for a safe, nonsurgical solution, PRP hair restoration may be the answer you’re looking for.
